As part of the on-going preparation for the visit of the Jubilee Icon in Chicago Deanery parishes, Immaculate Conception Parish in Palatine, Illinois, participated in the celebration of the Akathst to the Protection of the Mother of God.

On Sunday afternoon, June 5,  Very Rev Fr. Mykhailo Kuzma, pastor,  led parishioners and  guests in the prayer of praise and supplication to the Most Holy Mother.

At the conclusion of the Akathist and the recitation of the Eparchial Jubilee Prayer, the Dean of the Chicago Deanery, Fr Basil Salkovski, OSBM, preached in English and Ukrain-ian to those assembled. His message revolved upon the need for and presence of structure and order in the relationship of the parish to the deanery, to the eparchy, to the metropolitan see, the global Ukrainian Catholic Church community, and to the entire Church—the Body of Christ—no matter where on earth it lives. No one parish is the complete Church of Christ—but a vital part of the whole.

In concluding remarks, Fr Mykhailo thanked all for their presence and invited everyone to the parish hall for refreshments before their trek home.
