Eparchy Plans for Fiftieth Jubilee

In 2011, St Nicholas Eparchy will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary. A series of special events is planned throughout the eparchy over a year-long period to mark this significant event.

For the occasion an icon has been commissioned to serve as a visual reminder of evangelization within our Ukrainian Catholic community. This sacred image will travel in a pilgrimage to the parishes of the eparchy.

In conjunction with this, Bishop Richard has asked that the jubilee commemorations start in the metropolitan Detroit area this coming summer. His Grace will bless the icon at a hierarchical Divine Liturgy over the weekend of June 4 - 6, 2010.

At this time the Detroit Deanery is scheduled to host an Eparchial Conference at the onset of these celebrations. The theme of the conference will be Evangelization--a quite fitting topic for all of us in the Ukrainian Catholic Community. Dynamic and captivating speakers will be there, and delegates of clergy and laity from all around the eparchy are to participate in workshops.

A banquet will be held on June 5 and the Eparchial Conference is to culminate with the Divine Liturgy on June 6.

From Detroit the icon will be a focal point in other observances across the Eparchy of St Nicholas, concluding in Chicago at a celebration of our heavenly patron, December 6, 2011.

Further information about the continuing program will be announced in the pages of New Star and in parish bulletins. Watch for notice of ways you can share in the eparchy-wide program as it unfolds in your local area.
